By re-interpreting and appropriating architecture to suit their needs and desires, skaters pose a critique of the spatial regulations and pre-defined purposes of the industrial society, making them the post-industrial designers of their everyday life.
Through several design iterations I have explored and translated the tactics offered by skateboarding, in order to start a broader process of imagining and performing alternative ways of engaging with public spaces that allows for greater social diversity and multitudes of uses.
The ‘Collective Patchwork Mapping’ of Copenhagen does not work with the conventional logic of efficiency, it can’t guide you from A to B. Instead it can guide us towards an imagined and desired future(s). The participatory method used to create the map, can be applied in other contexts, to mediate between lived realities and inspire a collective process of world-making.
All components of the project have been gathered into a folder, which can be downloaded in the end of the page. I encourage to download, print, use or distribute the material as you wish.
